Outpatient Eating Disorder Treatment for New York Residents
The Renfrew Center of New York City, New York is an outpatient facility specializing in the treatment of anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating as well as the full range of eating disorders. We reinforce a sense of community by helping patients recognize shared themes and struggles. Programming at the New York City location consists of a comprehensive range of in-person and virtual options including Day Treatment, Intensive Outpatient and Outpatient Services.
Our location is convenient for New York residents, and allows patients to easily transition between all levels of care including Residential treatment at The Renfrew Center of Philadelphia – Spring Lane, PA, just a short two-hour drive or train ride away. Outpatient services are also available at The Renfrew Center of White Plains (Westchester County, NY).
The New York site is within walking distance to all major NYC buses, trains and subways and is handicap accessible.
Renfrew’s top priority continues to be the health and wellbeing of our patients, their families and our staff. With that in mind, we have put the necessary procedures in place to ensure continued safety and are proud to state that more than 97% of staff at The Renfrew Center are vaccinated against COVID-19.

Welcome to the heart of Renfrew! Our clinical team is comprised of leaders in the eating disorder field who create personalized treatment plans and provide the highest quality care to you or your loved one.

LMHC Regional Assistant Vice President
Ms. Hartman is the Regional Assistant Vice President for The Renfrew Center, overseeing the New York City, NY; White Plains, NY; and Paramus, NJ sites. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a focus on Childhood Development from The George Washington University and her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University. Ms. Hartman has been with Renfrew since 2013, having interned at the New York site, then holding the positions of Primary Therapist and Team Leader at The Renfrew Center of Boston, and most recently serving as Senior Team Leader at The Renfrew Center of Northern New Jersey. Prior to joining Renfrew, Ms. Hartman served as Clinical Research Coordinator in the Department of Endocrinology at Boston Children’s Hospital.

MD Medical Director
Dr. Cheng received his Medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, completed his Internship at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, his Psychiatric Residency at the Payne Whitney Clinic/New York Presbyterian Hospital, and his Clinical Fellowship at the Public Psychiatry Fellowship of New York State Psychiatric Institute. Prior to joining Renfrew, Dr. Cheng was the Medical Director of the Psychiatric Evaluation and Referral Service at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Center in Manhattan. He has also worked in Ambulatory Psychiatry at Bellevue Hospital and was an attending psychiatrist for the Eating Disorders Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital–Westchester.

Ms. Hartmann received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from The University of Iowa and her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Specialization, from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Prior to joining Renfrew in 2018 and serving as Team Leader, she was Program Supervisor at BronxWorks where she developed and provided clinical oversight to a program offering trauma-informed education, counseling and enhanced case management services to households transitioning from shelter to independent living. She has extensive experience working with children and adolescents with complex mental health pathologies and their families across a variety of settings including hospitals, residential, day, and crisis stabilization treatment programs. Ms. Hartmann is a member of the National Board for Certified Counselors.
