Presented by: Laura McLain, PsyD, BC-TMH - Clinical Telehealth Supervisor and Training Specialist, The Renfrew Center & Jessica Berens, MS, RD, LDN - Senior Regional Nutrition Manager, The Renfrew Center
Held Online
While still a relatively novel DSM-5 diagnosis, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) is an eating disorder affecting children, teens, and adults with little guidance regarding evidence-based treatment. This webinar will provide a brief overview of ARFID, the three subtypes, and the importance of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Synthesizing Renfrew’s Unified Treatment Model, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for ARFID (CBT-AR), and case examples, this presentation will review exposure principles including an avoided foods list, development of a hierarchy, and imaginal and in-vivo food exposures.
Acknowledging the therapist’s and dietitian’s role in sessions, in addition to the value of group and meal support, this presentation will offer actionable tools for providers to utilize with their clients with an emphasis on willingness and collaboration. Finally, this webinar will share research outcomes from Renfrew’s treatment approach highlighting the promising efficacy of exposure therapy specific to ARFID.
