The Holiday Toolkit: Supporting Your Clients with Binge Eating Disorder (Video)

For those in recovery from binge eating disorder (BED), the holiday season is often the most stressful and triggering time of the year. A brief overview of the process by which clients use their BED symptoms as strategies in managing distressing emotional experiences will precede an exploration of concrete tools, templates and handouts. These tools are specifically designed to help clients navigate the steps following a binge episode, set boundaries with loved ones, say “no” to burdensome obligations, and create a series of exposure tasks using “forbidden” foods. Weight-based discrimination and weight inclusivity will be examined and interventions for effective application and integration into clinicians’ own personal treatment style to enhance recovery with this complex population will be provided.
