About the Training
Growing evidence suggests that emotional avoidance maintains eating disorders and co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, substance use, and trauma. A transdiagnostic treatment approach targeting emotional avoidance while fostering emotional awareness, tolerance, and acceptance provides an integrated approach to complex symptom presentations.
The workshop outlines the conceptual framework of The Renfrew Unified Treatment Model for Eating Disorders and Comorbidity (UTM), adapted from David Barlow’s Unified Protocol (UP), and presents an overview of food, body image, and social exposures with opportunities to apply concepts to complex eating disorder cases.
