When Symptoms Collide: Addressing Eating and Substance Use Disorders

Wednesday, October 22, 2025 • 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm (ET)

Free | Professional Webinar
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm (ET)

Presented by: Heather Maio, PsyD, CEDS-C - Assistant Vice President, The Renfrew Center of Florida

Held Online

Eating disorders and substance use disorders affect millions of Americans. They frequently occur together – both types of symptoms serve the same function of managing distress by numbing, avoiding, or changing difficult emotions. This webinar will explore this intersection of these two diagnoses, discuss risk factors, review screening and assessment tools, and offer evidence-based emotion-focused treatment interventions that can target symptoms of both disorders. This presentation will also touch on the overlap of disordered eating and substance use on college campuses, and highlight the value of a transdiagnostic approach when supporting patients in recovery from these co-occurring disorders.
