Renfrew Research Published In Prominent Journal
The Research and Training Departments of The Renfrew Center are pleased to announce that the initial report of our multi-year project to adapt and implement evidence-based treatment across all levels of care — residential, day treatment and intensive outpatient — has been published in the highly regarded peer-reviewed journal, Clinical Psychology: Science and Practice.
This ground-breaking article is titled: Evidence-based implementation practices applied to the intensive treatment of eating disorders: Summary of research and illustration of principles using a case example.
Renfrew’s Clinical Leadership and Clinical Advisory Board are committed to the importance of disseminating results to the community and, therefore, have made this article “Open Access" so anyone interested in reading it is able to do so.
The article summarizes how Renfrew partnered with eating disorder research experts to create and implement The Renfrew Center Unified Treatment Model (UTM) for Eating Disorders®, an innovative evidence-based approach for eating disorders, across all of its treatment sites. Clinical staff were trained in the emotion-focused, transdiagnostic approach, and lessons from implementation science were applied to reach a successful conclusion.
Renfrew is the first residential eating disorder center to rigorously study the implementation of evidence-based practice across multiple sites and levels of care. Its success serves as a case example demonstrating that evidence-based care in community settings is possible for individuals with eating disorders. The methods by which Renfrew evaluated the impact on patient outcomes at the residential level of care are highlighted in the article which also includes important summaries of implementation research across disciplines to create a cohesive and effective evidence-based therapy program.
It is important that those in the eating disorders field recognize that the reality of providing a coherent, evidence-based model across our complex health systems is not only possible but is best practices for our clients.
