The Renfrew Center’s Body Image Expert to Speak at International Conference
Adrienne Ressler, LMSW, CEDS, selected to speak at The 12th London International Eating Disorders Conference
The Renfrew Center, celebrating its 30th Anniversary as the nation’s first residential eating disorder treatment facility dedicated exclusively to the treatment of adolescent girls and women, announces that Adrienne Ressler, LMSW, CEDS, renowned body image expert and Vice President of Professional Development for The Renfrew Center Foundation, will speak in March at the 12th London International Eating Disorders Conference. Ms. Ressler will present along with distinguished eating disorder experts, Margo Maine, PhD, FAED and Beth Hartman McGilley, PhD, FAED.
The presentation, Bridging Gaps in Eating Disorders Treatment: Hidden Faces, Obscure End Points and Holistic Approaches to Heal the Shattered Self, will focus on the research-practice gap in eating disorder literature with regard to midlife onset , the lack of definitive parameters for eating disorder recovery and how the use of experiential and somatic therapies can promote health restoration.

The 12th Annual International London Eating Disorders Conference is one of the leading and most respected eating disorders conferences in the world. This year it will take place at the Institute of Education, University of London on March 18th – 20th. This three day, CPD certified conference combines plenary sessions, short papers and posters. With more than 450 professionals expected to attend, the London Conference will provide a forum for key topical issues in the field of eating disorders to be explored and discussed.
Ms. Ressler has served as senior staff at The Renfrew Center for 25 years. A body image specialist, she is a member of the Academy of Eating Disorders as well as a Fellow and past president of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp). Her trainings reflect her background in body-focused methods to treat eating disorders, body image, trauma, and substance abuse. She is published in The International Journal of Fertility and Women’s Medicine, Social Work Today and Pulse, the journal of the International Spa Association. Author of chapters on the use of experiential and creative therapies for eating disorders in two textbooks, her work has also been included in the first Encyclopedia of Body Image and Human Appearance.
Dr. Maine is a co-founder of the Maine & Weinstein Specialty Group, a founding member of AED and a member of the Founder's Council of NEDA. A member of The Renfrew Center Foundation’s Conference Committee and The Renfrew Center’s Clinical Advisory Board. Dr. Maine is the author or co-author of numerous books and textbooks, including Treatment of Eating Disorders: Bridging the Research - Practice Gap and Effective Clinical Practice in the Treatment of Eating Disorders: The Heart of the Matter. Dr. McGilley is Associate Professor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. A member of The Renfrew Center Foundation Conference Committee, she is the co-editor of Treatment of Eating Disorders: Bridging the Research-Practice Gap.
