2 CE Event for Professionals

Breaking Free: The Treatment of Eating Disorders and Trauma

Healing from an eating disorder and trauma is a complex and difficult process. Through the use of compassion, that process is enhanced when the clinician helps the client understand how the
eating disorder has served as a protective response. This presentation will provide attendees with a trandiagnostic and Cognitive Processing Therapy approach to the treatment of adolescent girls and
women with eating disorders and trauma.

Attendees will learn the benefits that result when their clients are able to embrace strength and resiliency in tolerating and experiencing their emotions while staying anchored in the moment. Through
the use of case examples, this workshop will address the themes of esteem, trust, intimacy, and control.

The Aftercare Group is for adolescent girls and women who are alumni of Renfrew’s higher levels of care and are working toward recovery from anorexia, bulimia or disordered eating patterns involving binge eating or restricting. Led by a licensed clinician, the group provides a safe atmosphere where group members will explore eating disorder triggers as well as issues concerning body image, relationships, work and school. Members of the group are required to be followed by an outpatient therapist in order to participate.

Date: Meets weekly on Thursday evenings
Time6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Emotional Eating Group provides a safe and supportive environment in which women can explore the emotional, behavioral and interpersonal factors influencing their eating behaviors as well as their feelings, thoughts and beliefs about their bodies. While focusing on the underlying issues of emotional and binge eating, participants gain the skills and confidence to tolerate a range of internal emotional experiences without resorting to the use of eating disorder symptoms. This group also addresses issues related to family, work, relationships, and phase of life struggles so that individuals can explore lifestyle changes that promote recovery.

This group is for patients who do not require a higher level of care such as Day Treatment or IOP.
