12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT
As obsessed as eating disorder clients are with their bodies, they have cut themselves off from the emotions and experiences stored in their bodies. This presentation will allow participants to process and experience concepts developed from dance movement therapy to understand the clinical benefits of utilizing empathy as a pathway for connection to one’s physical sensations. How to challenge clients’ fears of being “seen” and their tendency to isolate will be explored. Clinicians will learn to identify their own kinesthetic countertransference with their clients and how to use empathy to effectively reduce shame.
