In this special recovery workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to hear Johanna's inspirational journey of struggle and victory over the eating disorder that consumed 10 years of her life. Now, fully recovered, Johanna, an activist and visionary, has touched the lives of thousands of individuals through her book, Life Beyond Your Eating Disorder, her presentations, and her belief that full recovery is a reality. In this supportive environment, Johanna will discuss the importance of gratitude, how to reclaim your personal power, and provide tools and tips to help you move forward in recovery. A Question & Answer session will round out the evening.

After recovering from a ten-year-long battle with various eating disorders, Johanna Kandel founded The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness. Since founding The Alliance in October 2000, she has brought information and awareness about eating disorders and positive body image to more than 160,000 students internationally. In addition, Kandel facilitates weekly support groups, mentors individuals through their eating disorders treatment and recovery, helps thousands of people gain information and find the help they need, and advocates for mental health and eating disorders legislation.
She is the Alumni Liaison for The Renfrew Center Foundation, member of the Eating Disorders Coalition Board of Directors, Florida team leader for the National Eating Disorders Association’s STAR program, founding board member of the Eating Disorders Activist Network, and board member for Girl Future. Kandel is an active participant in National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, and has received many awards for her ongoing outreach and advocacy work, including the Jefferson Award for Public Service© and Harlequin Enterprises’ More Than Words Award. Johanna has appeared on national television programs including NBC Nightly News and The Today Show, and has been profiled in the New York Times and Glamour Magazine.
